Church Purpose Statement:
"Community Church exists to glorify God and, in His strength,
equip and empower the body of Christ to serve others in love and
go make disciples."
Description of a Disciple- Community Church,
Oshkosh
A disciple is a person who, by faith, has made a personal commitment
to following Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of their life.
A disciple is:
1) A person who lives their life to bring all glory and honor
to God. This is a person who worships God corporately and in private
through prayer, fasting, tithing, and the sacrificial giving of
their time and resources.- 1 Corinthians 10:31; Romans 12:1-2;
John 4:23-24; Colossians 3:15-17; Ephesians 4:17-20; Ephesians
3:14-21.
2) A person who consistently studies and applies the Bible to
their life. This person views the Word of God as essential and
authoritative in their life and is able to discern truth from
error, both within the Church, and in the culture around them.-
Psalm 1; Psalm 119; Colossians 3:16; James 1:23-25; 2 Timothy
3:16-17.
3) A person who lives in obedience to the prompting of the Holy
Spirit in harmony with God’s word.- John 14:15-16; Matthew
28:18-20; 1 John 5:3-5; Galatians 5:16-18.
4) A person who lives out the fruit of the Spirit and demonstrates
the humility of Christ in their relationships with others.- John
13:35; Romans 12:9-10; 1 John; 2 Timothy 1:15; Galatians 5; Galatians
6:14; Philippians 2; Luke 17:38; Matthew 10:38-39.
5) A person who understands their unique gifts and uses those
gifts to serve and build up the body of Christ.- 1 Corinthians
12 and 14; Ephesians 4; Romans 12; Hebrews 10:24
6) A person who practices the corporate ordinances of the Lord's
Supper and baptism by immersion.- 1 Corinthians 11; Matthew 28:18-20;
Romans 6:1-4.
7) A person who openly shares their faith in Christ and lives
with purpose to reach those who are lost. Matthew 28:18-20; 2
Corinthians 5:11-21.
