Greeting Community Church Family,
I will get right to the point: we will live-stream one service on March 15th at 10:45, but otherwise, all public services and activities of Community Church will be canceled for the week of March 15th. We will make future decisions on a week-to-week basis.

Before I unpack the reasoning behind this decision, let me remind us all of this.

This time is a challenge for all of us. The coronavirus is not the first historical event that has swept across the globe, nor will it be the last. This happens to be our time. God is our Hope, our Strength, and our Deliverer. Amid these days, as people experience stress and worry, it is an opportunity to be witnesses of God's peace as we cast all our cares upon Him, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

Here are the main reasons for the decision.
We are good neighbors to our broader communities. This decision was made in accordance with recommendations by the State of Wisconsin Health Department based on the State of Emergency declaration issued by Governor Evers. We honor their leadership in this time and pray for continued wisdom on their behalf.

We love our neighbors and one another through wisdom. Let's be realistic, this virus spreads easily. The more people exposed results in the increased probability of unknowingly spreading the virus. Not meeting face-to-face for a couple of weeks means breaking the momentum of the virus.

Here are a few practical details.
First, go to the website for a link to the live feed. You will also find links to suggestions for family worship, children's activities, and media resources. You will also see a link to continue in your faithful giving.

Second, watch your emails for updates regarding services and activities. We will decide by Thursday afternoon regarding our church family activities for the next week.

Third, watch out for one another. Please keep praying and looking for ways to serve one another, especially those who may be in particularly vulnerable groups.

The church office will be open regular hours, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Staffing will depend upon the individual's health.

Let me share one last thought. Amid the disruption to normal life, we have an opportunity to be creative in our worship, witness, and service. Families can explore ways to worship God together. People can look for new ways to reach out to the neighbor next door and be a Gospel witness. Use this season -- and it is a season -- to be creative in how to live out your walk with Christ!

Shalom, which means Peace!

COVID-19

Dear Community Church family,

You may be wondering what proactive steps Community Church is taking, and what you can do, in light of the spread of the Coronavirus COVID-19 strain. Allow me to start by answering the question that is probably on your mind when it comes to church:

The website will be updated if any activities will be cancelled and ministry leaders will connect with their known participants directly. With that said, while there is growing uncertainty in our world, our God is in control and His perfect love drives out fear. Our best response as Christ followers will balance wisdom, love, and prayer.

First, we encourage you to pray. Pray for healing of those who are affected, for protection and peace for those living in anxiety, and for government agencies and healthcare professionals who are hard at work in prevention and care.

Second, Community Church is taking practical steps across all ministries for kids and adults. For example, we are increasing our usual sanitizing regimen and making more hand sanitizer available.

Third, there are practical things we can do as individuals. It is okay if you choose to stay home from any Community Church activity. We are working to make a live feed of services available. We will provide more details of how to access the live stream when it becomes available again. If you do participate in a Community Church activity, let’s greet each other without shaking hands. In addition:

  • If you are sick, have a fever or a cough, please take good care of yourself and stay home
  • Wait two weeks to come to any Community Church activity after traveling to a Level 2 or 3 country
  • Let us know right away if you test positive for the virus and have been to church activities

Here are some resources that might help you learn more about this virus:
This is a rapidly changing situation. We will continue to update you, so this is a great time to subscribe to our all-church email list to receive those updates. Just like in snow emergencies, you can check our website if you have questions about whether a service or activity is canceled.

Fourth, if you do choose to stay home, we encourage you to participate as you are able through the church website, including your offering.  Even if we cannot meet as a whole church family, we still have ongoing financial commitments to be met.  You can give via the mobile app or through the Community Church website.

Finally, in times of uncertainty I’ve always found Psalm 46 to be comforting:

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (Psalm 46:1–3).

Later in that same Psalm:
Be still and know that I am God.

Let us rest in our God and Savior!
Shalom!
Pastor Alan
