Superheroes Can't Save You

Comic superheroes embody the hopes of a world that is desperate for a savior. But those comic creations cannot save us from our greatest foes—sin and death.

Throughout the history of the Church there have been bad ideas, misconceptions, and heretical presentations of Jesus. Each one of these heresies fails to present Jesus as the Bible reveals him. This class will demonstrate how these ancient heresies are embodied in contemporary comic superheroes.

Leading a Community Group

God created us for community, with one another and the world around us.  One of the ways that we try to live in community is through community groups.  If you are interested in leading a community group and would like to learn more of how to do that join Pastor Karl for this one week crash course.

The Five Solas

Looking at the horror, tragedy, and false doctrines permeating the church today, you may be tempted into thinking that Christianity today is facing its greatest threat ever. While it’s true that our generation faces some unique challenges, it’s also helpful to remember that the Christian faith has always been under siege.
In these five sessions, we will explore the five essential points of doctrine known as the five Solas that originated during the Reformation. Simple and yet comforting, the five Solas are the foundation to helping us hold on to the truth and counter false teaching.

The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry

We are all busy. Some of us can't remember the last time we rested or even had free time. Our busyness can feel productive but it is a toxic distraction, sapping our spiritual, physical, and emotional vitality. It may seem like we have no choice but to live at a frantic pace, but God has a better path for us.

Join us as we address one of the greatest threats to our spiritual lives: hurry. Instead of allowing our calendars and screens to control our lives, Jesus offers us a new rhythm of life, overflowing with grace, peace, and beauty.

In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything "right" and raise up "good" children. It's easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.

This class offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, it presents us with a big-picture view of God's plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, this class shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God-grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.

Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children's hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.

Life in Babylon - Cannabis

What does the Bible say about marijuana? If it doesn’t directly address marijuana, how can Christians know what to make of the legalization of recreational cannabis and the advocacy of medical marijuana?

In the past, Christians could easily answer the question of whether or not it was permissible to use cannabis by deferring to state prohibitions. We could simply say, “It’s against the law.” Today, that answer is no longer possible. Christians are now forced to do what they should have been doing all along: Think like disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ and bring to bear the wisdom of the sufficient word of God.
Since cannabis is not explicitly mentioned in the Bible, we must understand what it is and how it affects the user. We also must understand what the Bible says about discipleship, healing, suffering, and what it is to be human. Only then can we answer the critical questions regarding the recreational use and the medical use of cannabis.
